Student housings run the risk of being chaotic, noisy & hectic environments. This project creates spaces where the presence of a community is felt, but in way that is not overwhelming. The movement of people is visually broken down into blurs & gestures that our peripheral vision picks up on. Digital methods were used to explore this idea of selectively downscaling the "resolution" of our vision to free up our brains' "computing" power.
Gaussian splatting, photogrammetry & datamoshing with video codecs were analysed to understand what a computer's "peripheral vision" could look like. These digital effects were then extrapolated to architectural techniques: using materials such as glass bricks, polycarbonate, perforated aluminium to physically manifest this selective downscaling of visual information.
